I will describe my family because we also face similar issues.
My father is an aircraft engineer and he earns 2–3 lakhs per month. My mother is a house wife.
The problem is that my father is quite ambitious. He was born and brought up in a slum near the Ultadanga station(Kolkata).

Even the house where he lived was not his. His family came to Kolkata during the partition of India in 1947 and got hold of that property. The original owners probably shifted to East Pakistan (Bangladesh).
Thus from an early age,he wanted to own a property,a bungalow,a car and lead a lavish lifestyle.
He first bought a 3bhk flat where my parents shifted right after marriage. He used to work for kingfisher then(kingfisher was known to pay very high salary to its workers).
At this time,he also bought a bungalow on a loan.
But then kingfisher was shut down in 2012.
Thus we faced many financial problems from then but finally he got another job in Indigo.
Even after earning in lakhs,he had to deal with the following expenses:-
- School fees of both me and my sister(we both studied in expensive, reputed missionary schools)
- the EMI of the bungalow(a large chunk of his salary goes into this)
- tuition fees
- groceries and other day to day needs
Yet he has saved a lot of money to lead a secured life after retirement.
Thus if he hadn’t bought the bungalow and chose to live in that flat then most of his salary could have been saved.
Whenever you want to do something which is beyond your capabilities, you will face problems.
