Tuesday saw Ponniyin Selvan 1 maintain its box office performance while the Hindi-dubbed version of the movie continued to perform poorly. The Mani Ratman-directed movie had earned 1.50 crores on Monday, and Tuesday’s take was pretty much the same with an additional 1.50 crores*. The movie was only shown on a predetermined number of screens, therefore the attendance is reasonable in that regard. Additionally, since this movie is almost three hours long, there aren’t many compilations from the night concerts.
Even yet, it is still respectable that it is maintaining Friday collections of 1.85 crores on the fifth day as well. Otherwise, the numbers continue to decline on weekdays, as has been the pattern for both big and little movies. The Mani Ratnam-directed movie, though, is at least doing alright commercially. It’s not driving away customers or blowing up the box office, either. Even that isn’t awful at all in the present, when movie watching is becoming increasingly difficult. PS 1 is taking the medium road well.
Ponniyin Selvan 1 is presently at 10.50 crores* after passing the 10 crores milestone. Due to the Dussehra vacation, it could generate at least 2 crores in revenue today, which would help enhance overall collections. The south biggie will continue to hold onto a respectable number of screens in the upcoming week as well thanks to the current trend, which should help move its case closer to the 20-25 crore bracket.
*Estimates. Awaiting the final numbers
