The Gujarat Giants have paid INR 3.2 crore to acquire top-ranked all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner for the 2019 inaugural Women’s Premier League season.
The Australia all-rounder was put up for bid by Mumbai Indians at INR 50 lakhs. With the help of UP Warriors, a bidding war quickly reached INR 1 crore. Mumbai bid aggressively for her, pushing the price over INR 2 crore. The bid was made by Gujarat Giants for INR 2.8 crore. In the end, the WPL auction resulted in Gujarat Giants purchasing Ashleigh Gardner’s services.
Ellyse Perry, an all-rounder from Australia, has been acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 1.7 crore.
With her all-around skills, 130 T20 Internationals for Australia veteran Perry is renowned for having the ability to alter the outcome of a match.
Smriti Mandhana, the standout opener for India, was earlier sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2023 auction here in Mumbai for INR 3.4 crore.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India, was purchased by the Mumbai Indian for INR 1.8 crore. Mumbai made every effort to secure the India captain.
While the RCB Capitals initiated the bid, Delhi Capitals raised the paddle and increased the price to INR 1.10 crore, joining the competitive bidding fight against RCB Capitals. Mumbai eventually secured the services of the India captain.
A total of 1,525 participants registered for the first WPL auction, and only 409 made the cut.
The player auction for the inaugural WPL will take place on February 13 and the league’s first season will be contested in Mumbai from March 4 to March 26 at two different venues.
