The third James Cameron picture to earn more than $2 billion worldwide is now “Avatar 2.”
James Cameron-
has done it once more.
Avatar: The Way of Water, his most recent film, has made over $2 billion globally.
The long-awaited “Avatar” sequel from 2009 is now the sixth film to earn more than $ 2 billion worldwide. Along with “Titanic” and “Avatar,” it is the third Cameron film to reach this feat.
The Zoe Saldana-Sam Worthington starrer made $598 million domestically and $1.426 billion internationally, according to a Deadline report. With this enormous sum, “Way of Water” is now the movie with the fourth-largest overseas take, after only “Avatar,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Titanic.”
With $227 million, “Avatar 2” is the second-highest grossing IMAX film, slightly behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” With about $229 million, it also had the highest studio box office take in China during the pandemic. According to a Koimoi.com report, the movie was a huge hit in India and earned Rs 386.90 crore at the box office.
One of the most expensive films ever produced, “Avatar 2” debuts 13 years after the first instalment. The movie reportedly cost between $35 million and $400 million.
Within 14 days of its premiere, the extravagant visual production brought in $1 billion worldwide. Since “Spider Man: No Way Home” in 2021, it was the movie that reached the $1 billion mark in the quickest time.
After 25 years, director James Cameron and Kate Winslet reunite for this movie. She assumes the role of Ronan, a chieftainess of the Na’vi. Jake (Worthington) and Neytiri (Saldana) also play parents in the movie.
Trade analysts are certain that the film will continue to rule the box office for the foreseeable future. According to a CNN story, the James Cameron masterpiece won’t face any competition at the picture office until mid-February, when Marvel Studios’ “Ant Man and the Wasps: Quantumania” opens in theatres.
