Indian movies nominated for an Oscar in 2023
The 95th Academy Awards shortlist includes “Chhello Show,” India’s official entry for the 2018 Oscars, “All That Breathes,” “The Elephant Whisperers,” and “Naatu Naatu,” the song from the historical action epic “RRR.” Learn more about these books here:
“Chhello Show,” a Gujarati-language coming-of-age tale about a young boy’s love affair with cinema in a village of Saurashtra, is directed by Pan Nalin and is named “Last Film Show” in the English-speaking world. The film, which was produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Dheer Momaya, is on the list of shortlisted worldwide feature films.
“Chhello Show” will compete against 14 other movies, including “Argentina, 1985” (Argentina), “Decision to Leave” (South Korea), “All Quiet on the Western Front” (Germany), “Close” (Belgium), and “The Blue Caftan,” according to the Academy’s official website (Morocco).
Naatu Naatu from RRR
The “Naatu Naatu” song from “RRR” has earned a spot on the shortlist for best music (original song). The well-known Telugu song “Naatu Naatu” from SS Rajamouli’s landmark film “RRR” has received three significant foreign nominations. The pan-Indian movie centres on two real-life Indian rebels from the 1920s: Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR). It tells a fictional pre-independence tale about them.

This year’s Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards went to the song, which was written by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj and composed by MM Keeravaani.
All That Breathes
The well-known Hindi film “All That Breathes,” which was produced with international collaboration, is competing for a slot in the top five of the best documentary feature category. The film, which is set in Delhi, centres on two brothers named Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad who have dedicated their lives to saving and helping injured birds, particularly Black Kites.
“All That Breathes” previously took up the Golden Eye award for best documentary at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival, a festival gala that supports independent cinema and filmmakers.

The Elephant Whisperers
In the documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” by Kartiki Gonsalves, two abandoned elephants and their keepers form an unbreakable friendship. It is produced by “Period. End of Sentence” star Guneet Monga, an Oscar winner.
The Tamil title will have to compete with four other teams in order to reach the final five “”Angola Do You Hear Us? “, “The Flagmakers,” “Nuisance Bear,” “Shut Up and Paint,” “Anastasia,” “Voices from a Plantation Prison,” “, as well as nine additional documentary shorts in the area.
