Holika Dahan 2023: On March 7, India will observe Choti Holi, often referred to as Holika Dahan. According to the Drik Panchang calendar, the Purnima Tithi will start at 04:17 PM on March 6 and end at 06:09 PM on March 7.

Why Do People Celebrate Choti Holi?
The tale of Holika Dahan has a connection to Lord Vishnu. A demon king by the name of Hiranyakashipu had a son named Prahlad. Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, enraged Hiranyakashipu, who regarded himself as a god. Hiranyakashipu did everything to kill Prahlad because of his devotion to Lord Vishnu, but eventually failed.
Afterwards, Hiranyakashipu’s sister Holika offered to assist. She had a boon that made her impervious to fire, and she meant to put Prahlad in a fire with her and burn them both alive. Prahlad, however, was spared by the mercy of Lord Vishnu, but Holika was destroyed by the flames. And Holika Dahan is observed to commemorate this historical occurrence.
It’s customary to observe Holika Dahan before Holi. People are gathered around the bonfire to sing, dance, and worship. The bonfire symbolises the victory of good over evil, while the burning of Holika symbolises the destruction of evil. They rub the ashes from the blaze on their foreheads in an effort to bring luck and wealth.
